About Us

What a ride this has been. Twisted Builds originally started November 17th 2015 as a Forum. Me (Dale) and one of my great friends (Darren) thought it would be a great idea to start a internet forum for all our crazy builds we like to do.

We ran the forum for a couple years however with the downfall of internet forums it never did take off. This was right around the time I personally was getting into Arduino and learning how to code embedded projects and computer projects. I talked to Darren, who was the person that coined the name “Twisted Builds”, and asked for the go ahead of turning that in to the business name. He said to send it and March 2nd 2017 the business as it is now was born.

At first, I was building a stand alone canbus datalogger for my megasquirt 2 ECU I was running in my budget built Pontiac Firebird, fiddling with a stand alone trans controller, and some other odds and ends however the business took off when Matt Happel of Sloppy Mechanics requested a super simple open loop electronic boost controller. He requested a OLED display so its visible in all lighting situations and a simple dial to turn it up and down. From those requests and some prototypes, the “Simple Dial a Boost” was born. It was at the time a super cheap, 4 wire connection simple boost controller that we sold a pile of. However with the release of the Terminator X ECU with on board boost control, my sales dropped off like a rock, and with post 2020 part cost increases, it didn’t make sense to continue to produce them so the design was retired.

With the retirement of the design came plans of a new improved design with some built in functionality the OG super simple one lacked – which sparked the V2 Simple Dial a Boost that you can read about here:

We have ventured into other avenues as well. We have done private label development of modules for companies, code debugging, electronic design, 3D scanning, and have developed other electronic products like our engine simulator, canbus logger, we had a wideband on the market for a while until the chips to produce them were discontinued, etc.

Moving forward we plan on leaning into the electronic development and sales, private label work, along with 3D scanning and to be released soon, fuel injector testing and cleaning with our own proprietary test equipment (for collecting dead time data), podcast and “Tech Corner” and more.

With that all said, I want to thank every single customer who has supported Twisted Builds LLC over the years. Without you, this adventure would not be anywhere near it is now. So from the bottom of my heart thank you.
